Indications  

Desoximetasone Emollient Cream indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid

Pharmacology

The exact mechanism of the anti-inflammatory activity of topical steroid response in the treatment of skin diseases is generally unclear. However, corticosteroids are thought to act by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, collectively called lipocortins. This is achieved by binding the drug glucocorticoid receptor, then transferring to the nucleus and combining with DNA to cause various gene activation and suppression. These proteins are postulated to control the biosynthesis of effective inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of their common precursor, arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid is released from membrane phospholipids by phospholipase A2.

Dosage & Administration

Apply a thin film of Desoximetasone Emollient Cream to the affected skin areas twice daily. Rub in gently

Contraindications

Topical corticosteroids are contraindicated in those patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation.

Side Effects

When this drug is first administered to the skin, it may cause burning, itching, irritation, or dryness. As your body responds to the medication, this should go away in a few days. Notify your doctor or pharmacist right once if any of these side effects persist or worsen.

Keep in mind that your doctor ordered this medication because he or she believes the benefit to you outweighs the risk of adverse effects. The majority of people who take this medicine do not have any substantial adverse effects.
